Yes, according to the configuration of the handset, the loud-speaker stops automatically when headphones are plugged in, however, it is possible for the two to play concurrently. The new Orpheo has 2 headphone jacks.
How long do the batteries last?
24 hours in idle mode (the screen of the handset is illuminated while waiting for further commands).
10 hours whilst producing sound (playing the commentaries).
What is the length of the commentary we can save onto the handset?
Everything depends on the memory size chosen - from 2 hours to 80 hours.
What is the optimal length for a commentary on each point of interest?
Ideally, each piece of commentary should be shorter than 3 minutes - 1min 30sec is a good duration.
How many languages can we put onto the device?
The number of languages is only limited by the size of the memory. For more languages, choose a larger memory capacity.
Can we set-up the Audioguide to just play the one commentary completely, from start to stop?
Yes, this is within the default parameters. In this case, the handset functions like a 'walkman'. Of course, the visitor still has the option to key in a number while the commentary is playing to listen to a different segment of information.
Is there the possibility to change the commentary stored on the Audioguide?
Yes, the Orpheo is sold with software included for the PC that allows you to change and save the commentary stored on the devices.
Is it possible to accidentally erase the content of the handsets?
No, because the commentary is saved using compact Flash, which means that even if the device is completely discharged it will still retain everything stored in its memory.
What quality of sound can we have?
This varies according to the type of sound compression. The device accepts compression from 8kb/s to 256 k/s. The quality therefore ranges from that of a standard telephone to CD quality sound. It is also possible to 'mix' the compression type within the one sound segment in order to save on memory size.
Can we synchronize the devices with television, video, or DVD images?
Yes, by using a small built-in antenna in the handset. The video, TV or DVD must have a mini-transmitter attached to broadcast the sound. For small spaces we use infra-red and for larger or outdoor sites we find that radio-frequency works best.

How long does it take to recharge the Audioguide batteries?
2 hours.
How long is the battery life?
Approximately 1000 recharges, that is to say around 3 years if the devices are recharged once every day.
After three years, the batteries will still function but some of the battery life will be lost.
How long does the warranty last for?
The ORPHEO product comes with a 2 year warranty. It is possible to extend the standard warranty in the form of a maintenance contract. Please ask us if you would like more information.
